Learner Objectives:

Family participants will have the following opportunities:

Teacher education students will have the following opportunities:

Evaluation of the program –

Weekly on-going evaluation will occur as participants are asked to comment upon their experiences to date, with special encouragement to be critical in their analysis.

A portfolio will be kept by each participant group. Informal participant group self-evaluation of portfolios will take place.

An exit evaluation survey instrument will be used to determine participant assessment with their progress and their degree of satisfaction with the overall program.

Impact of the program -

As outlined above, there will be significant opportunity for literacy-related learning on the parts of all participants. It is hoped and anticipated that this experience will lead participants to avail themselves of further learning opportunities. It is also assumed that these experiences will lead parent participants to become more actively involved and supportive in their children’s education. As a result of these experiences, university students, as aspiring teachers, will have gained a richer understanding of the relationship of local culture to the broader learning process.
