Appalachian receives $231,427 to help Kurdistan universities develop curricula - Appalachian State University has received a $231,427 grant from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Kurdistan and the U.S. Department of State to help universities in Kurdistan update their teaching practices. - Public education in Wilkes County gained the national spotlight when a local educator recently won a nationwide award for innovative teaching. Jim Brooks of Millers Creek won the Commission On Media's annual Media Literacy Award for 2008 in November. [more]
