Off-Campus Teacher Education Recruiter/Advisor

The Reich College of Education seeks an Off-campus Teacher Education Recruiter/Advisor for its Appalachian Transition to Teaching Program to work in the areas of Caldwell County, Catawba County, Wilkes County, Burke County, and other surrounding counties to recruit lateral entry, licensure only, and first-time students into appropriate ASU teacher education programs. This is a 12 month non-faculty position based at the ASU Teaching Center on the Caldwell Community College campus in Hudson, NC.

Qualifications

  • At least five years of successful public school teaching in North Carolina and/or eligibility for North Carolina licensure; general familiarity with state licensure requirements and teacher education programs; (preference given to candidates who have worked in teacher education programs at least as adjuncts; have master’s degree in relevant area; have National Board certification, and/or successful mentoring experience).
  • Strong working knowledge of basic technology (i.e., Word Excel, PowerPoint; website content maintenance)
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, and experience in making presentations in large and small group situations;
  • Freedom to travel frequently including evening and overnight work, due to the scope of the service region.
  • Be able to work from Caldwell Community College in Hudson, NC as a base of operations while maintaining close liaison with Appalachian State University in Boone, NC

Responsibilities

Establish ASU presence in schools of the service region, provide information and advice concerning different routes to becoming a teacher; be knowledgeable about licensure policies and procedures, work closely with current recruiters at ASU Teaching Center at Caldwell Community College and Hickory Higher Ed Center; with school district human resource personnel to assist lateral entry teachers with licensure requirements; with the Regional Licensing Center in Charlotte regarding lateral entry requirements; and with ASU teacher education programs to promote admission to teacher education and enrollment in appropriate coursework.
