Communications Disorders Internship
The last semester of study in the program involves a full-time internship. Students may choose to complete their clinical practicum in the schools during their internship semester as well, resulting in a "split internship." Students completing a split internship register for 6 hours of CD 5569 and 6 hours of CD 5900. They complete 6-8 weeks of internship in a school, and the remaining 6 - 8 weeks of the internship in a clinical setting.
Students who complete practicum in the schools during a non-internship semester register only for CD 5900, and spend their entire internship in one clinical site.
The program has internship agreements with many facilities throughout North Carolina as well as in neighboring states. For example, students have been placed at the Asheville and Fayetteville Veteran Administration Hospitals, Charlotte Rehabilitation Hospital, Frye Regional Medical Center, the Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center, Johnson City Medical Center, Siskin Hospital for Rehabilitation, John Hopkins Medical Center, and Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
