Marriage and Family Therapy Faculty
Jon Winek is the Program Coordinator and Professor in the Department of Human Development and Psychological Counseling at Appalachian State University and a licensed marriage and family therapist in North Carolina. Dr. Winek received his PhD from the University of Southern California in Sociology. He also completed a two-year post-masters internship in child treatment in Los Angeles, California. He is a Clinical Member of AAMFT as well as a member of ACA and an Approved AAMFT Supervisor.

Karen Caldwell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Development and Psychological Counseling at Appalachian State University and a licensed marriage and family therapist in NorthCarolina. She has a PhD in Family and Child Development from Virginia Poly technic Institute and State University, a M. Div. from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a B. A. from Mars Hill College. Dr. Caldwell is an Approved AAMFT Supervisor and Clinical Member of AAMFT.

Lynn Coward is an Assistant Adjunct Professor in the Department of Human Development and Psychological Counseling at Appalachian State University and licensed marriage and family therapist in North Carolina. He received his PhD from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Marriage and Family Therapy, and earned his M.A. in Community Counseling with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from Appalachian State University. Dr. Coward is an Approved AAMFT Supervisor, a Clinical Member of AAMFT and NCAMFT.
Jack Mulgrew is a Professor in the Department of Human Development and Psychological Counseling at Appalachian State University and a licensed marriage and family therapist in North Carolina. He earned his PhD from Florida State in Counseling Psychology and has completed two postdoctoral Gestalt therapy programs, one lead by Miriam and Erving Polster, both Ph.D. Also, he finished a three-year program in Gestalt therapy with Jim Simkin, PhD and has completed a two-year training therapy with Bingham Dai, Ph.D. His supervising and teaching focuses on the personhood rather than on the therapist’s techniques. Dr. Mulgrew is a Clinical Member of the American Academy of Psychotherapists and is an Approved AAMFT Supervisor.
