ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Our offices are now located on the third floor of the the new College of Education Building. The building is located on the corners of Howard Street and College Street.. [Updated Campus Map] [New Building Information]

The scupltre is of a hand and is large enough for people to sit if desired.The ASU Graduate School is now requiring that each student preparing to enroll in the 5900 and 6900 courses complete a contract with the clinical site prior to pre-registration. If this is not completed, the student will be unable to register. The contract is to be completed and handed into Margaret Hardin well in advance of early registration for the next semester. January 17th: First day of Spring Semester Classes.

February 29th: Application deadline for COMPS for PSC and CMHC students. Please turn in the completed form to Diana Barbee in HPC before this date with your advisor's signature and a $45.00 check made payable to CCE. [COMPS Application]

March 31st: COMPS. Check-in time is 8:50 a.m. in COE room 127.

COMPS Resources are in the HPC office that may help repare you for the exam. An office assistant will sho you how to check out these materials for a maximum time limit of 3 days.

2010 AWARDS:

Dr. Geri Miller

Congratulations to Dr. Geri Miller who received the 2010 N.C. Foundation for Alcohol and Drug Studies’ Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her exemplary leadership, dedication, and commitment to service and outstanding academic excellence in the addiction professional fields in North Carolina. Congratulations to the following faculty, students, and alumni of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program for being the recipients of awards presented at the North Carolina Counseling Association conference, which was held in Concord, NC.

2010 AWARDS

Dr. Lee Baruth (Department Chair) received  the Administrator of the Year Award for his strong support and leadership for the Department of Human Development & Psychological Counseling. Current student Candice McDowell received the Mary Thomas Burke Award from the North Carolina Association for Spiritual, Ethical, Religious and Values in Counseling for her strong commitment to honoring these important aspects in the counseling process with her clients in practicum internship. Current student Amy Krueger received the North Carolina Association for Specialist in Group Work Graduate Student New Professional Award for her dedication in  providing strong group counseling skills. Alumni Pastor Melanie Childers (‘09) received the North Carolina Counseling Association Beginning Counselor Award for her continued professionalism and skill as Director of Pastoral Care at Watauga Medical Center in Boone.

 

2009 AWARDS:

Congratulations to Dr. Geri Miller who was awarded the Ella Stephens Barret Award and to Dr. Keith Davis who received the Professional Writing and Research Award at the North Carolina Counseling Association conference, which was held in conjunction with the American Counseling Association national conference in Charlotte this year. Congratulations also to the following graduates of the Community Counseling program who were also award recipients, Justin Leonard ('07) Beginning Counselor Award, Jennifer Froyd ('08) Mary Thomas Burke Award, and Jennifer Johnson ('08) Most Improved State Division Award within the North Carolina Counseling Association for her work in membership drive for the Association for Gay, Lesbian, and Bi-Sexual Issues in Counseling.

LEGISLATION:

July 27, 2007: NC advances mental health parity. Effective July 1, 2008, insurers providing group health plans will be required to provide full parity for individuals with bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, anorexia nervosa, bulimia, schizophrenia, paranoia, post-traumatic stress disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder, meaning equal policy coverage between physical illness and these mental health concerns is required. A minimum benefit standard will be determined and required for all other mental health concerns. [Read HB 973]
