FREE Staff Development for N.C. Civics, History & Social Studies Teachers
Appalachian State University's Reich College of Education is offering a special free summer institute on the theme of DEMOCRACY, DIVERSITY & THE MEDIA.-July 21st- 24th]
The exciting event features dynamic speakers from across the country and explores practical standards-based approaches to using media/technology in the classroom to exam the themes of diversity & democracy.
Does the mass media support or subvert the role of social studies teachers? Does it nurture informed and responsible citizens or seduce us with trivia and weapons of mass distraction?
In a series of 90 minutes sessions the institute will connect media, technology and media literacy to key strands identified by the National Council for the Social Studies.
40 years ago The Kerner Commission concluded that "our nation is moving towards 2 societies , one black, one white- separate and unequal".
This year a Black man and a woman are competing for the presidency of the United States .Join us in this exciting time by completing the application form available online along with the full conference program.
Housing can be arranged[ a fee does apply].
The program will support CEU applications or the institute may be taken for 3 hours of graduate [ regular tuition rates].
Teachers may attend 1 session or several days with flexible offerings but they must submit the application form.
