New scholarship for prospective teachers available at Appalachian
A new scholarship for prospective teachers is available from Appalachian State University's Reich College of Education. Similar to the highly competitive N.C. Teaching Fellows Scholarship, the Bob and Thelma Alexander Scholarship is a four-year, $20,000 scholarship that will be awarded to five outstanding high school seniors who have demonstrated academic achievement, financial need and a desire to teach. Annual Scholarship Reception April 23, 2010
On April 23th, 2010, Reich College of Education held its annual scholarship reception, recognizing undergraduate student scholarship recipients and the donors who funded them. One -hundred fifty students total received $203,000 in scholarship aid during the 2009-2010 academic year.
The Anne Cannon Scholars Program embodies the philanthropic spirit of Anne Cannon Forsyth and honors her life's work of providing educational opportunities to minority students. Funds from the Anne Cannon Trust are utilized for scholarship awards to highly qualified high school seniors from under- represented groups to attend Appalachian State University. The Adams family established this scholarship in 2005 in honor of Mrs. Daisy Austin Adams, a native of Watauga County and educator for over thirty years. The Daisy Austin Adams Scholarship is awarded to graduates of Watauga High School who are currently enrolled full-time in elementary education within the Reich College of Education. 2011 Swing for Scholarships Golf Tournament

The Reich College of Education Advancement Board will host its 6th annual Swing for Scholarships Golf Benefit to support scholarship for teacher education majors at Appalachian State University. The tournament will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2011 at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Conover, NC. Over the years, the golf benefit has raised over $100,000 with 16 scholarships awarded! RCOE's New Building Under Construction
The new education building, projected to open Fall 2011, will be five stories with a front orientation to King Street and side orientation towards Belk Library and Plemmons Student Union. The entire building will be wireless and equipped with the latest teaching and learning technology.
Appalachian's new education building specifications will include
- 121 faculty offices
- 17 classrooms including specialized areas
- 12 conference/seminar rooms
- Computer teaching lab
- Doctoral program suite
- Counseling training clinic, including 6 clinical rooms
- Math and Science Education Center
- Reading Clinic, including 8 tutoring/diagnostic rooms
- Teaching Fellow Program suite
