New scholarship for prospective teachers available at Appalachian
A new scholarship for prospective teachers is available from Appalachian State University's Reich College of Education. Similar to the highly competitive N.C. Teaching Fellows Scholarship, the Bob and Thelma Alexander Scholarship is a four-year, $20,000 scholarship that will be awarded to five outstanding high school seniors who have demonstrated academic achievement, financial need and a desire to teach. Annual Scholarship Reception April 24, 2009
On April 24th, 2009, Reich College of Education held its annual scholarship reception, recognizing undergraduate student scholarship recipients and the donors who funded them. One hundred and sventy students total received $230,000 in scholarship aid during the 2008-2009 academic year.

The Anne Cannon Scholarship Program The Anne Cannon Scholars Program embodies the philanthropic spirit of Anne Cannon Forsyth and honors her life's work of providing educational opportunities to minority students. Funds from the Anne Cannon Trust are utilized for scholarship awards to highly qualified high school seniors from under- represented groups to attend Appalachian State University.
Allison Spring Parris, an elementary education major and recipient of the Chancel and Joan Brown Scholarship for Elementary Education, is featured with her scholarship benefactor, Mr. Chancel Brown. Both retired educators from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system, Mr. Chancel '54 '61 '69 '71and Mrs. Joan Brown '54 reside in Winston-Salem, NC. The Browns have been very proactive in their support of the university, including Mr. Brown's current membership on the RCOE's Advancement Board. Mr. and Mrs. Brown established this scholarship in 1996.
